هبط مكوك الفضاء "إنديفور" في مركز كيندي للفضاء بولاية فلوريدا الأمريكية بعد إتمام مهمته في محطة الفضاء الدولية والتي دامت أسبوعين.
وقام طاقم المكوك المؤلف من ستة رواد فضاء بتوصيل آخر قطع كبيرة من محطة الفضاء الدولية والتي تشمل غرفة جديدة تدعى "ترانكويلتي" أو "السكينة"، وستوضع فيها أجهزة الإنعاش.
وكانت هذه هي المهمة الاخيرة التي يطلق فيها المكوك في الليل، حيث ستجري المهام الاربع التي تليها في وضح النهار.
والمفترض أن تنهي المهام الأربع بحلول ايلول/سبتمبر المقبل بناء المعمل الخاص بالمحطة، حيث من المقرر إحالة برنامج المكوك الفضائي إلى التقاعد.

وتعتبر مهمة إنديفور الأولى من نوعها منذ اعلان الرئيس الامريكي باراك أوباما عن رؤية جديدة لبلاده بشأن أبحاث الفضاء.
وكان أوباما قد ألغى برنامج وكالة الفضاء الأمريكية "ناسا" لتطوير صواريخ تحل محل المكوك، وطالب القطاع التجاري بالعمل على توفير احتياجات النقل المستقبلية.
وفي هذا الاطار تناط مهمة إرسال الروَّاد إلى الفضاء في المستقبل الى القطاع التجاري الخاص.
واقر تشارلي بولدين رئيس الوكالة في مؤتمر صحفي بأن النهج الجديد الذي تبناه أوباما ادى الى خلق حالة من القلق في اوساط العاملين فيها، وفي الكونجرس كذلك.

دريملاينر طائرة بوينغ الجديدة تتم رحلتها الاولى بنجاح
اتمت طائرة شركة بوينغ الجديدة "الـ787 دريملاينر" اول رحلة تجريبية لها في الولايات المتحدة بنجاح، وذلك بعد سنتين ونصف من التأخير، كان سببها مشاكل فنية مختلفة.
وبدأت الرحلة في مدينة سياتل وانتهت فيها بعد ثلاث ساعات من التحليق. وكان مقررا لها ان تطول اربع ساعات لكنها سارعت بالهبوط بسبب امطار غزيرة.
وتعقد الشركة آمالا كبيرة على الدريملاينر، وتعد بانها ستكون اقل طائرة ضررا على البيئة في العالم.
وتلقت الطائرة الجديدة حوالي 840 طلبية من شركات طيران من شتى انحاء العالم، ولو ان بعضها الغي بسبب التأخير في اتمام انتاجها.
ومما يجعل الدريملاينر مطلوبة خفة وزنها، حيث صنعت من الياف الكربون والتيتانيوم، مما من شأنه تقليل استهلاكها من الوقود وتكاليف الصيانة.
وقال المتحدث باسم الشركة جيم برو ان هذه الرحلة تهدف اساسا الى التأكد من ان الدريملاينر ستطير بالشكل المطلوب.
وهدفت بوينغ الى جعل الدريملاينر تحلق مسافات طويلة دونما حاجة الى اعادة التزود بالوقود.
وقال الخبير هاورد ويدن لبي بي سي ان هذا المشروع "قد يبدأ ثورة في عالم النقل الجوي، وذلك بفضل التجهيزات التي تتوفر عليها الطائرة."
وقال ويدن ان 80 من جسم الدريملاينر يتكون من الياف الكربون التي تبلغ زنتها 35 طنا، مما يجعلها خفيفة الوزن للغاية.
وتطور الشركة الاوروبية ايرباص المنافسة لبوينغ هي الاخرى طائرة جديدة مصنوعة من الياف الكربون، وهي الـA350.
كما تهدف ايرباص الى غزو سوق مختلف بطائرتها العملاقة A380، والتي تستطيع نقل عدد اكبر من الركاب، ولو انها ستضطر الى الاقتصار على المطارات المجهزة لاستقبال الطائرات المزدوجة الطوابق.
وكانت تجربة بوينغ مع هذه الطائرة مغامرة كبيرة نظرا للجديد الذي تتميز به، وكذلك لانها اضطرت الى تكليف عدد كبير من الشركات بمهام جزئية لصناعة الدريملاينر، حسب ويدن.
وتابع الخبير قائلا: "هذه اول شراكة عالمية حقيقة في مجال صناعة طائرات نقل الركاب."
