وذكرت تقارير اعلامية ان حالة من الهلع والذعر سادت في في مدينتي بيدان وباندا اتشيه وبخاصة في الاحياء التي انقطع عنها التيار الكهربائي نتيجة للزلزال.

وقالت قناة مترو التلفزيونية في اندونيسيا ان السكان في العديد من المناطق خرجوا الى الشوارع والى المناطق الخالية.
